dome light

something strange in my 91' 740

when I opened each door except my drivers door, the main dome light
as well as the 2 kind of spot lights( right next to the dome light went on)
so I took a switch off my rear door and installed it on the drivers
now the 2 spot lights go on and off, but the dome light stays on and does not shut off when the door is closed
is this normal?
I have no manual with my car
are the spot lights and dome light meant to go on and off with the doors opening and closing, or is it just the spot lights?
why did the dome light do on and off, with the other doors?
are the switches interchangable? it just hit me I will try using the passenger door switch on the drivers side to see if it will work
