repaired odometer, now strange ticking sound... 200

the odometer wasn't working on my 79 244. so i pulled it out and fixed the gear like this website illustrated.

then it started working, but now its making this strange ticking sound (it wasn't at first) that increases with speed. any ideas what this could be?
