Regina fuel pump longevity 900

I have recently had some symptons which might point to impending fuel pump failure. It's a '94 945 built in Halifax, NA, Rex regina system, with 270,000 km including 12 tough Canadian winters. Is there a normal fuel pump life (and are we due for failure?) or do these fail at random?
