I must say that whoever designed the fine auto shifter on 240s must have been a genius! What I am trying to do is replace the plastic bezel at the base of the shifter (PRNDL...), but I can't seem to remove the knob from the top of the shift lever, or figure out how to undo the bottom of the shifter assembly.

My only guess at this point would be to drive out the split pins down near the hinge assembly. Any input would be greatly appreciated as I'm about to go for the blow torch and the two ton heavy thing!

This is on a 92 245... for what its worth, the entire shifter assembly is out of the car.
