Fuel pulsation damper 200

I have an '89 240 that is making a noise on idle that sounds like piston slap but is too fast to be that.
From what I have gathered it could be the pressure pulsations in the fuel line caused by the fuel pump operation. Have any of you guys had a problem with the pulsation damper (located near the fuel filter) that would cause a continous fast knocking sound on idle?
