Odd sound after starting 200 1992

This past weekend my 1992, Volvo 240 (Automatic) started making a noise after it started. Starting seemed to take a few seconds longer, and after the car started there was a strange grinding noise. I am not sure what this is. Once it starts the car runs fine, but saturday I was driving, I was at a red light and the car just cut off. It restarted, and had driven find ever since.
