You might all recall that I was quite surprised to find that I still had rather good compression in all four cylinders of my 1967 122s Wagon (135, 135, 130, 140).
Since I knew that I was loosing approx. 1 qt of oil every 200 miles, I began to investigate other sources of oil loss. I replaced the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, fuel pump, flame trap, and oil pressure sensor (used some silicone). I also replaced the intake/exhaust gasket, but there was no oil coming from there... :)
Despite these efforts, my oil loss seems to be about the same.
I know that the timing cover gasket is still losing a bit, and despite my best efforts, there is still a little loss at the rear of the IPD allow cover. However, I do not think that those two locations could account for all of my loss.
When I start the car after it sitting for a week or two, I tend to get some black soot blown out the pipe. This leads me to think that I'm still burning oil as opposed to leaking.
Is there any chance the oil loss could be a result of a valve problem?
Also, I've got the updated front and rear seals, and there is not leakage from either.
