hissing noise from HVAC - 95 960 S90-V90

I have the 960 with manual climate control. The issue is that when vent or bi level is selected on the dial (regardless of recirc/air con settings), air will come out of these vents however there is a hissing noise coming from inside or below the dash. This hissing noise does NOT occur when you select the other vent settings (eg defrost, defrost/floor). Is there a vacuum check valve or tube specifically relating to the vent setting which I can fix/replace?

BTW, when the car is accelerating and the vent mode is selected, the hissing noise goes away. It will return though when cruising.
