Where There's Smoke ... 700 1988

My 740 Turbo has been dropping a good bit of oil and I have yet to clean off the block and look for the source, but I had an interesting experience.

I added oil after a drive and smoke immediately came "billowing" up from the lower passenger side of the engine. It was a little dark (and cold) and I could not spend more time looking. Does anything come to mind immediately about where oil would pour out of the engine when added?

Also, anyone with experience with additive dyes?

Thanks
