Car died on the way to work today 200 1983

While on the way to the train today (I drew the short straw to work Thanksgiving this year) my '83 244DL suffered a complete engine and electrical failure. The car turned over flawlessly this morning and was running fine until it just went dead while driving at about 25 mph. It felt the same as if a timing chain went but with the addition of the complete loss of the electrical system. I guess I'll start by looking at the 25W fuse under the hood but then what?
