Motor Mount Replacement Disaster: Motor surges in neutral when I start it now 200 1986

I tried to replace a failed motor mount on my manual trans 86 240. I used a jack to move the motor up, not a rig (couldn't figure that out from the posts I found here). When everything went back in place, the motor surges wildly like I've never heard it. I tried twice and turned it off after less than 2 seconds. Have I destroyed my transmission or just torn the tranny off the motor? Is this car now totaled? Any theories would be appreciated.
