Heater core hoses: What size, and how to replace? 200 1980

I've come to the point where I have to decide if I want to replace the original heater core hoses.

What size are these hoses? How long are they? (I haven't pulled them yet.)

How durable are these hoses? I won't replace them if I don't have to, but it seems like it would be a good idea given how deep I am into the dash.

Where do the hoses connect on the other side of the fire wall? It didn't seem totally obvious to me when I looked under the hood.
