Seat heaters, relay-type heaters but non-relay harness... 700 1990

I swapped leather seats into my 740, now I'm finally thinking about taking the chill off in the morning so after checking the FAQs I realized that the reason the connecters are so different between the car's stock harness and the leather seat stock harness is because the leather seats use the relay-type thermostat. What's the best way to get around this? Tap in a wire before the heater switch and run that to the constant supply for the seat? Or can I work around the relay and just plug the fabric-seat thermostat/intermediate harness into the heaters directly?
Thanks!
