Water Pump Woes - Fixed by using old pump !!! 200

I noticed a small antifreeze leak coming from the O-ring below the head.
So, naturally I figured I might as well replace the water pump.
I've done this before, but this time I cannot get the the rear of the water pump to mate with the engine. I've tried the block of wood, but I still
can't thread the bolts on. I know... I should have gone with the
Hepu or GMB, but all I could get today was an ASC from AutoZone.

...

I finally determined (by comparing the new to the old pump)
that the new ASC from Autozone had narrower holes than the previous GMB.
Even though the holes were in the correct locations, there was not enough leeway, even with vigorous pushing, to thead the bolts. Bottom line,
I re-used the old GMB with the new gasket and 2 O-rings and voila...no leak, Everything works fine now.

I will be returning the ASC with lots of "constructive" criticism.
I wonder if anyone ever successfully installed this brand of water pump.
Thanks Trev29 for first suggesting that I just re-use the old pump!
