Sudden drop in gas mileage (26 to 16mpg) 900

Hello,
I have just experienced a sudden drop in gas mileage from 26mpg to 16mpg. Any ideas? The only possible agrivating factor I can think of is that I was driving down a deeply rutted dirt road and scraped the frame rail once or twice at very low speeds. However, I put a lot of highway miles on it on the fillup after that and seemed to get normal mileage. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
