Altenator woes 200 1986

Battery died, it was getting old, symptom was that it turned over slower and slower and finally not at all. Changed out the battery. New one was defective, only 10.6 volts from the store and would not hold a charge. Took it back, new battery, 12.66 volts. When the engine is running the voltage checks at 13.7-14.0 volts. Problem is that all of the idiot lights are glowing faintly, but brighter (stll not close to full brightness) at high rpms. I know that when all of the lights come on then that means altenator failure, I had this happen when a belt broke once, but this is only a glow. The altenator is off of a 92 240 and is the 80 amp variety. It worked fine when in the other vehicle. I changed it out when I replaced the battery because the lights were glowing. Didn't help. Voltage at battery post on altenator reads 13.7-14.0 also.

Anybody have any idea what's going own.

Thanks,
David
