Hello bricksters. I'm messing with a problem in my '91 245. There is a high pitched rattle in the steering column. It sometimes surfaces by itself on a rough piece of road. Sometimes, when braking above 60 mph it is accompanied by a shuddering in the steering wheel. What is unusual is that it is never accompanied by any brake pedal shudder. Discs are not new, but are clean and plenty thick. Front wheel bearings are sound as are the front bushings. There is a very tiny amount of slop in the steering wheel (rack endplay) but nothing to speak of. Perhaps only a degree or two, almost unnoticeable. Again I get the rattle more often than the shudder. Car is lowered and runs 205-60's on Virgos. When I say "high pitched", I mean it is not a suspension clunk sound. More like marbles in a plastic tube, and not just a single clack, a bunch of them. Then it will quiet down. Suggestions???
Thanks,
Dave
