replacing stabilizer end links 900 1995

I've been told by my indie mechanic the stabilizer end links are worn, and are causing the muffled clunking in my front end. However, his labor and parts prices are both pretty exorbitant, especially when I already know I'm looking down the barrel of new rear shocks (NO, not Nivomats -- THANK GOD).

Is this doable in a garage on jackstands, or does this have the potential to bind me up if I try doing it myself and then get stuck on something ? If I can save some $$ on doing the end links, I'd sure like to......
