I Need An Additional Volvo Like I Need An Additional Hole In My Head 120-130

BUT . . . . the vocational school in nearby Brunswick, ME is auctioning off a bunch of donated cars, among them a 1966 122S. They claim 62,628 miles, which, of course, is nonsense. The car has Texas origins. I have no idea how long it has been in Maine and exposed to winter salt. Bidding closes at 2 pm on Friday, Dec.2. The car was driven there by the donor, and the head of the automotive department told me they didn't do anything to it "because it didn't need to have anything done to it." There is evidence, however, of recent work - shiny nuts on shocks and tranny mount, new tie rod ends, clean, shiny shaft on Pitman arm. I didn't drive it, but I have no reason to doubt that it is mechanically sound -- started right up, idled nicely once warmed up, gearbox action feels smooth, brakes have normal resistance to pressure. The car looks good, because of, what I would guess to be, a 10 year old re-paint. There are 8-10 nickel and dime sized rust/bubble spots, one of which (corner of passenger door) yielded to my ice-pick. Driver-side floors are fine, but on the passenger side both front and rear floors are rusted through (4 x 6" holes) from the usual, un-attended to, leaky windshield -- cross bracing looks salvageable. Inner fenders are solid, and there is no visible rust on the fender hangers. Trunk and spare-tire well look solid. The upholstery has some ripped seams, but looks repairable. In short, after fixing the floors, this car would be a nice daily driver; if one put an OD in it. I'm planning to submit an offer of around $1000 just to keep the car out of the hands of the guy who wants a $500 "winter-beater" and drives it till it rusts out from under him. I'm hoping that someone who understands and appreciates these cars will come along and offer the $2000+ it is worth. I'm not willing to spend that much for a car I don't need. (I have a 240 Classic SW, a "62 PV544, and a 142E; and my wife claims that the line needs to be drawn somewhere.) If anyone in the vicinity wants to jump in and, PERSONALLY, make a higher offer, e-mail me, and I'll supply address details.
Bob S.
