My mechanic and I have been having a tough time trying to figure out why my 1993 240 starts hard, runs rich with a stumbling idle, and stalls when cold. My mechanic is a smart guy, but not particularly knowledgeable about Volvos. The check engine code is 232 which refers to Lambda Operation (what is that?) and to fuel pressure and intake manifold. He has checked the various electrical resistances called out in the specs for the sensors and found nothing wrong. All of the usual suspects have been checked...fuel pressure OK, Fuel Volume OK, Mass Airflow checks out, temperature guage OK, no vacuum leaks, no intake air leaks. The ECU was recently replaced to stop the fuel pump from running when the key was off. Fuel pump then operated normally and following this the car ran fine for about 200 miles. This new problem makes the car pretty much undrivable in the (now) cold weather. The local Volvo guru is retiring and won't take on new customers. Has anyone any experience with this hard-to-find cold operation problem?
