240 Door handle repair 200 1993

Driver's door handle pulls out, but does not engage rod which is still connected. I have removed panel, moisture barrier, but cannot determine problem. The part of the handle w/rod attached moves slightly upon pulling, the opposite, front end of handle simply pulls freely. Seems disconnected. Is there a spring or clip missing? Thank you for your time and support.
