This post refers to the engine wiring that passes through the grey connector on a 1984 244 GL w/gasoline engine:
1. Is the insulation on the wires the same color on either side of the connector?
2. Does the color of insulation remain consistent all the way through the engine harness to each terminal?
This may be a "stupid newbie" question, but I couldn't find an accurate answer in the FAQ. The problem is that on the engine side of the grey connector, all the insulation was off all the wires all the way to the junction with the larger harness that passes between the intake runners. Before I found out about the biodegradable insulation problem, I sealed these wires with liquid tape all the way to the larger harness and covered them with black plastic tubing so it looks OE. Since then, I've recognized the need to bypass this connector and these existing wires by routing new wire along the right inner fender. The alternator wire is my primary concern. The "tickle" wire at the alternator is a lavender color and looks to have been changed. Not sure.
Where do I get the best deal on the Bentley manual?
