Blower motor extra steps--why?? 200

This is one of those just curious things. I have a squealing blower motor in my '90 740 GL, so I ordered a replacement from IPD. While I am thanking my lucky stars that I'm not replacing a 240 blower, I was rather surprised to see in the accompanying installation directions that I could not simply R&R without doing several steps. I am directed to cut, grind, scale (whatever that means), seal, and drill (more than once). I don't mean to sound anal, but does anyone know why this particulat part replacement is not a simple bolt-in just like every other blower motor (on non-Volvos) I've have ever done? Can't explain, but I just want to know why. As always, thanks.
Sven
