head gasket done? 700 1986

hey guys and gals,

recently I picked my brick up from the shop after getting an alignment done and started driving it around to warm it up a bit, so I could take it on the highway and see how she felt.

As I was driving away from the shop I noticed it wasn't shifting well, and so I stopped to lube up the kick-down cable, which had been sticking the previous winter - I figured it's getting cold again and it's probably just a little stuck in there.

When I got out, I noticed a lot of steam coming up from under the intake, and I noticed that the block from the head down was 'washed'. Of course, immediately I concluded that the head gasket must be gone, as I had been losing coolant slowly and mysteriously over the preceeding weeks - since I couldn't find a particular spot where it as leaking I wasn't really getting TOO worried about it, but now that I thought my head gasket might be to blame I was worried.

The next day I noticed the green coolant all over the 'top' side of the block, from the head down.

I haven't seen it since, and I don't think I've lost any coolant since either.

I haven't noticed my exhaust is any more 'white' and I haven't noticed oil in the coolant OR coolant in the oil (with my limited visual inspection capability).

Last night I put in a can of Bar's Leak (right into the rad hose, not the reseviour), and when I get some gasket maker I'll pull the valve cover and re-torque the head bolts.

I can't pull the head until the 24th-ish.

Does it even sound like my head gasket is gone? Can I wait that long?
