Having passed on the 850 Turbo for my daughter (too hard to fix them babies) http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=1027413
I have just put a deposit on a 90 745 GL automatic, 129000 miles (price $950). It had the typical stiff steering when cold (below 20 in Boston 'burbs last night), so I know how to fix that.
The other problem is a stalling when cold. Not being able to understand the owner completely, I don;t know if it stalls when the car is cold, or when it is cold outside, nevertheless it did it several times in the 20 minutes I drove, although in the last 5-10 minutes it did not. It seems to happen after you give it some gas, but not just as you give it gas, it responds OK, but 10 seconds or so later. So at a STOP, I accelerate across the intersection fine, then 100 yards later it stalls. Starts back up after maybe 2-3 seconds of cranking. The first time it stalled I had to crank for 20 seconds before restarting, after that the restart cranking was less.
It shuts off so fast it almost seems an electrical problem (it has the Regina system), but as the owner pointed out, it seems to occur right after you give it more throttle, and it does restart.
Headliner is falling down of course, and there are few body dings, but no rust and the leather seats are in good shape. Tires good but will have to put on the Gislaveds I have in the garage.
