My '84 240 had a bad intank fuel pump. I bought a generic one and replaced it. I also found the ruber boot on the assembly was shot, so I replaced it with vacume hose.
-The car ran perfect for about 2 months, and then unexpectadly started stalling while driving, particularly on rt turns. The car would restart after about 10 minutes, but it got worse, and now it will not start at all. After one stall, I checked fuel pressure, and there was none. I could start the car by jumping the main fuel pump on the fuses, which gave me fuel pressure. but now it does not start no matter what I do.
I figure it is the intank fuel pump again, could I have shorted it out, are generics simply inadaquate? could the rubber boot replacement be the problem?
I would take it to shop but 2 places quoted me around $200 plus parts. It seemed like a lot, considering the fuel pump took me about an hour to swap, once I knew what I was doing.
Thanks all
