Baffling no-start 140-160 1973

Can't get my beast rolling again after a tune-up gone awry.

I adjusted the valves as per the Fluitman method. (At TDC, adjust 1,2,3,5, roll the engine once over and adjust the others. First time I've tried this.) Changed the points, plugs, rotor and cap and ignition wires.

Now, she really doesn't want to go. Sometimes tries to catch, but won't. (Twin SUs, by the way.)

I static timed her to about 14 BTDC.

The dwell is within the specifications.

The ignition cables are on in the right order, 1,3,4,2, counterclockwise. (Just to make sure I haven't done something moronic: The No. 1 plug wire is aligned toward the back right of the engine compartment, correct?)

Could I have fouled up the valves so badly as to cause a no start? None of them required more than a tweak and some of them not even that.

How to proceed?

Thanks in advance,

Steve M.
