For 3 years I've had a problem with my 88 245. After driving a while, if I stopped for maybe 5 mins and tried to go again I would get hesitation for maybe 5 secs and then clunk she would go. I took it to 3 shops and no one could find the problem. Someone here suggested replaceing the center support and bearing.
After purchasing a center support and bearing in September I finally got the chance to install this weekend ( just bought my first house so it took me that long to find the time). So far not one clunk and if I really push her the wheels will peel out (never could do that before).
BTW when I removed the bearing I had to cut it off with my angle grinder. The inside of the bearing was crusty and there was no grease left. The balls had flat spots in them and the rubber support was cracked. I also noticed the driveshaft was always hot after driving.
So anyway thanks for all the help and suggestions. This is by far the best site on the internet. You have saved me so much money and as we all know its passion that drives us to keep them going.
