240 LH 2.2 idle mixture, AMM Q's 200

Hello everyone, I would like your opinions on my "progress" today. In regards to an idle problem I set the base idle on my 240 and then attempted to set the idle mixture. When hooking up an LED as per Bentley instructions the light remained on meaning I have a rich mixture. So I turned the adjustment screw counter-clockwise to lean the mixture. I turned and turned but the light stayed on. I couldn't get it to flash or go out at all. Then I did the idle mixture potentiometer test. I connected a DVOM between terminals 2 and 6 and the AMM and read 970k ohms, what in the world? This reading is definately out of the 0-1000 ohm specification. Is that resistance reading even possible? I turned the adjustment screw to see if I could increase or decrease resistance and I saw no change. So what I would like to know is: is it possible that these findings could cause a poor idle and a decrease in fuel economy? Do I have a super-rich condition? Have you guys had any luck with used AMMs off of eBay? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks in advance for any contributions.
