940 vs 240 in the Snow 900

This is the second winter with our 95 940T wagon after having a 92 240 wagon for six years. We had our first good snowfall on Friday here in Mass. and I got stuck in unplowed snow (almost to the air dam) starting from a stop on a slight slope (got moving with a human powered push). This is with brand new Nokian RSI snow tires and 100 lbs of sand in the rear. In multiple winters with the 240 and Cooper (half the price of the Nokians) snow tires I never had a problem in the snow. Is it just me, or is there anyone else out there who thinks the 240 beats the 940 in snow?
