The PNP switch in my 1997 960 is acting stupid. It'll force the tranny into limp-home mode one day, and then work perfectly the next. I'll get blinking warning lights for a few days, then they'll clear out on their own, only to return a day later.
I've looked at the switch and another Brickboard member sent me instructions on how to replace it. I can do the job myself, but it looks like a real hassle. And the part costs $125. So, has anybody been able to bypass the PNP switch in such a way that it fools the computer into thinking it's still there and functioning normally? I'm the only one who drives the car, and I plan to keep it until it turns to dust. So I'm not worried about disabling the "safety feature" of only being able to start in Park or Nuetral.
Or would that be as much trouble as just replacing the thing?
