audible click by shifter when releasing brake pedal 900

Starting a few days ago, Every time I release the brake pedal I hear an audible click by the auto trans shifter. If you put your hand on the base of the shift shaft you can feel the click. This happens in all gears except park. Any ideas of the cause? Is something warning me it is getting ready to fail or wear out?
