Studded tires vs studless tires 200

I am going to purchace traction tires for the back of my daughters 85 240 sedan. She is planning on taking it on some ski trips here in Oregon. My question is whether Studded tires or the studless type of traction tire is the right way to go. My local Les Schwab store says the studs are the way to go for more traction but they do make alot of noise and are not good for the roads. She will mostly be driving on dry roads except the weekend trips to the mountain. Also should we consider just tires on the back or go for them all around? Thanks
