Hi All,
I've got a problem with my '93 940 wagon. The problem is with the passenger side front wheel. I am pretty sure I have a bad strut, but was trying to do some research on the symptoms of a bad wheel hub in order to rule that out.
The problem first occurred a month or so ago and was very intermittent. Since the below freezing weather has settled across CT, the problem is almost constant.
What's the problem? When going over pot-hole type bumps there is an extreme and teeth rattling CLUNK. It's like the wheel SLAMS up into the wheel well. My guess is that it's a leaking/frozen strut as it is much worse in the extreme cold and very intermittent when warmer (like today).
My question is can this also be a symptom of a bad wheel hub? The reason I ask is that I have started to notice a persistent thrumming or humming from the passenger side front when going between 65-70mph. Maybe the bad strut has caused a problem with the hub?
In any event, I am replacing the strut on Sunday, but was looking for pointers on whether there could be an alternate cause.
Thanks,
Ian
