Too hard a ride, change springs or tires? 140-160

Hi, My 142 rides really hard. It isn't bad at all on realtively good surfices or even Ok roads, but here in NY some of the roads are just plain awfull and the 'ol 142 hits way too hard. I have poly bushings, vpd progressive springs, ipd sway bars, and bilstiens along with 50 series tires. My first inclination is to put on some 60's and possibly go with springs that offer more suspension travel. What's the opinion here? I am looking for good handling, but need to live with the local roads. I see on some areas of this site people running 45 series tires, how? what springs? Would 164 springs or ipd overload coils in back work? or some combination of the two?
