Hypothetical--change shocks/struts but nothing else 200 1989

Let's say my shocks and struts in my car needed replacing. There's no noise or clunking or other "bad stuff" that is detectable from the suspension, but the shocks need replacing.

If only the shocks and struts were replaced and nothing else (particularly bushings), what could I expect to experience afterwards? Is it a total waste to replace the shocks/struts but not to get the bushings while everything is opened up? Or, could the bushings be in a suitable condition where they don't need to be replaced as often as the rest of the suspension components?

Also, what's the order of replacement for the suspension parts, in terms of longevity? I get the feeling, sadly, that the bushings go first, then the shocks/struts, and the springs and sway bars rarely or never need replacing because of wear. Is there anything I'm leaving out?
