cruise control 200 1988

Good day, Bricksters. I'm trying to get the cruise in an 88 stickshift wagon working. I've gotten pretty adept at the later cruise, but this one has me stumped. I gone through the wiring at this point. From what is available in the diagrams, I believe I have correctly wired the pedal switches to the hot lead on the brake light switch. I have power at the two switches (as long as they are closed) and to the terminal on the ECU. I also have power from the fuse box to the ECU and a good ground. Changed out the bulb failure relay, just for good measure, but it and the brake lights seem to be working normally. Still, no cruise. Lead to the speedo is plugged in. No bouncing speedo needle. In desperation I've resorted to swapping parts. Changed the stalk switch and the ECU, no dice. I have unplugged the connection to the vacuum pump and run 12 volts directly to it. That part of the system is workign fine. Pump pulls the pedal right in and the brake or clutch switches drop it out. However I cannot seem to get a signal to the pump from the ECU. Any suggestions? If this is a "signal from the speedo" issue, how do I check that? Help appreciated.
