heater valve leaking..which hose to plug? 700 1991

I would like to make a tempory fix by plugging the input to the valve and subsequently to the heater core.( pending parts arrival).but just a little history first...I changed this valve a couple month ago..I also changed the hoses even though it wasnt the real thing as far as the original goes. there are two hoses to the valve ..one seems to come from the 'head" below the fuel rail and the other goes to the fire wall supposedly to or perhaps from the heater core . I need to know which to plug. My best guess would be the one from the 'head"..also , though hardly likely , I might have put on the valve backwards so most heater valves seem to have a metal side and a plastic side..so which way should it be oriented???..Thanks ...Paul R
