Transmission compatable 83 244 and 87 245? 200

Hi guys,
The trans blew in my trusty 83 244. It was an automatic with overdrive. Since I have a garage and a parts car that is an 87 245 Wagon automatic overdrive that works fine, I am thinking about swapping the transmission. I plan to junk the wagon, as the rust has eaten huge holes in it. I plan to pull the whole engine/trans out of it in one piece, as I am planning to take all usable parts off the car and then have it taken to the boneyard.

However, what do the members of the board think about installing a trans without taking out the engine on the 83? Think I should just pull the whole engine/trans assembly out of it as well? Can I be sure that these transmissions are compatable?

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy
