Kick down cable replacement, is metal crimp still used? 200 1990

I ordered a new kickdown cable, and it didnt come with a metal crimp. The crimp seems like its just a fail safe if the cable comes off the throttle spool. Its not need for normal running.

Ill call the dealer Monday , but wondering if the crimp was discontinued/obsoleted?
