1998 S90 ECUCompatability with 1996 960 S90-V90

Does anyone know if the 1998 S90 ECU would work in the 1996 960? My 1996 OBD II has not reset itself for nearly 10 months since the check engine light was reset. I understand that 1996 and 1997 OBD II had a reset prblem that was corrected in 1998.
