Seatback tilt knob removal for seat cover repair 700 1990

I can't figure out how to get the driver's seat knob for tilting removed so I can take off the seat cover. It seems like I have to turn the knob 1/8 turn while keeping the tilt mechanism from moving. The picture shows how the knob is held on:
