I had no recent record of the t-belt from previous owner so I decided to go ahead and change it tonight. Bought it from eeuroparts (Contitech) for $6.90USD.
Job was a bit harder than expected as I had to removed both cam and aux sprockets so I could install a new (used) t-belt back cover. The old one had melted via PO overheat summer '97.
Water pump and tensioner brgs seemed fine so didn't replace. I found almost nil play in pump brg and tensioner must have had ~.001" - .003".
A few comments though. Why are the aux/cam sprockets installed with roll pins..?! These will obviously shear off easier than keyways but I've never seen this. For this reason I think I'd advise caution when trying to turn the engine over via cam bolt. I did this and when I went to take cam off to install t-belt back cover, the sprocket was wobbly because the roll pin was bent and out of shape. I don't know if I didn't this or not.
If you are attempting this job, a friendly reminder to not rush. That way there's time to inspect other drive belts, ensure cam seal is not leaking etc. A 1/4" ratchet w/ 10, 12 and 13mm sockets were very handy to remove accesory belts + t-belt cover. And that splash pan is quite handy to catch all of the bolts I drop!
