I ordered a stock 240 exhaust system for my '88 244 from Borton Volvo. After 1.5 weeks, I had the box shipped to my door. I found that the contents were damagaged. I then called back and they sent me replacements to deal with the damaged itiems. I recieved them the other day. At that point I took the car to my mechanic, and we removed the old exhaust system and started to instsll the new one. Upon getting to the axile pipe, we noticed that it was an over the axile pipe instead of the under which the car came with. That was great. I called them this morning and was told that was the only way that it would come. The problem for this system is that it was designed for the '75 and '76 models that did not have a piece of metal between the the right rear tire and gas tank. I was told by borton that this was the only kit that I could get, and that I would have to bend the piece of metal to make it fit. I told them that I was not willing to do this and that I wanted to return it and be given a full refund, along with shipping. I had specifically asked them if this exaust system was the same as the one that came on my '88 when it was new, and I was told "yes". This was not the case. To their credit they said that they would give me a complete refund. My mechanic is ordering me a Starla kit, that he know's fits fell, and I have seen other's on cars that he has worked on. I guess I kind of Unhappy that Volvo stopped making the proper exhaust system for the 88 and newer cars. Oh well, but you might consider this if you are thinking about buying a exhaust kit from Borton or Swedish Engenering. I got the same story there... to bend the piece of metal. Sorry...not willing to do that to my car!
