I got new door gaskets for my 74 144 and they look great, but I ran into a minor problem. As you know there is metal channel all around the door which you squeeze the base of the gasket into. I noticed the new gaskets are narrower at the base than the old ones, probably in the ballpark of 1/16 inch. This is enough to make a sloppy fit in certain locations, like along the front of the drivers door (where the hinges are). Here the gasket is so loose I can easily wiggle it out of the channel with virtually no force. I was thinking about using silicone to glue the gasket into place. This would probably allow me to remove the gasket without damaging it if I had to. I was also told 3M has a product called weatherstrip adhesive which intended for this purpose, but that it bonds so strong that the gasket would be ripped apart if I tried to remove it. So, what would you do, recognizing that some sort of adhesive will likely be needed and switching back to the old gasket is not an option.
Thanks,
Kåre
