Brakes are good but not enough assist - check valve? 200 1990

Put on all new brakes last summer (4 rotors, 4 calipers, new brake master). Have 2 other 240's & the other drivers in the family complain that on this one you have to press too hard, even though it brakes OK. What does the booster check valve do? Could it be just that this needs replaced?
