JBowers ,you hit the nail right on the head with the assumption that my 960 was not running at it's needed operating temp. I cheated by not only putting a new thermostat in,I also added a new temp sensor. Gas mileage now back up to 27.5 miles to the gallon today and car ran beutifully also. Hope it will continue that way. I new there was something funny back in hot, hot weather the car was getting better gas mileage with the air on, than it was in cool weather with the heater going-just didn't dawn on me.
