I was hoping that someone out there could tell me where is the fuel injection relay on my '86 wagon (197K). In the Bently Manual diagram it is supposed to be next to the fuel pump relay (in front of the front passenger's feet), which I have already replaced.
A little background to my car problem: several weeks ago the car was running fine, and then then it would not start. It would crank just fine. Going on the Web it seemed that a good place to start was replacing the fuel pump relay. I did that and no effect. Next I replaced the fuel filter. The car would start with dificulty and idle poorly and die. Next I got the Bently Manual for Volvo 240s. Using the engine driveability troubleshooting chart the next place to check is the "system main relay" (LH fuel injection relay) Can't seem to find it. Oh yeah, just in case my gas gauge might be reading incorrectly I put 2-1/2 more gals of gas in the tank. A few other things I've checked for: cleaned the grounds for the fuel injection on the intake manifold, checked and cleaned the bladed 25amp fuse for fuel injection system (under hood next to left wheel well), checked and cleaned the fuses in the fuse panel (main fuel pump and in tank fuel pump), replaced distributor cap and rotor, replaced spark plugs (gaped the new ones), the main fuel pump humms when cranking the car. I know there are other stuff to check for but it gets rather involved (gas pressure, reading fault codes(I don't have a reader), idle air valve and list goes on. Any tips from you folks out there, I sure would love to hear from you. Thanks, Joel
