After my original ecu went bad I found a link that gave a list of known replacement ecu's (for the life of me I can't find the link)
I went to the junk yard and found a 1990 740 N/A EGR equiped car with bosch ignition.
Installed the ECU and ICU from this car into my 89 740 N/A Non-EGR equiped car and it starts and idles fine. Idles at about 500 rpms, but steady.
Once you apply the gas the car hesitates slightly until about 1500 RPM's.
And then runs great with a very low back fire noise from intake.
I then replaced the following on my car because it also is running rich;
AMM, FPR, Spark plugs, ETC, Distributor, fuel filter, TPS, power stage knock sensor, fuel relay, fuel injectors, brake booster, IAC valve etc etc etc.
These are the few parts I haven't changed crank position sensor (tach bounces)
O2 sensor, temp sensor for gauge, gas check valve, ignition switch
When the car is running it feels like it isn't getting enough air.
Stuck my had in front of the AMM (after removing the filter box) and it pulled my hand in very hard and sucked the according intake right up.
I thought that this was very odd almost like the car is looking for more air
and couldn't get enough of it. Exhaust smells rich and the spark plugs look blackened with too much fuel.
Cleaned IAC and throttle body. Same result.
Unloosed distributor and advanced and retarted it with no result.
Checked and double checked for vacume leaks. No result.
What I am thinking is that maybe the EGR ECU is looking for the EGR gas and since it doesn't have it it's sucking more air.
Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks
