My P1800 with a B20E has a persistently leaky valve cover gasket. I was unable to find a cork gasket through my local autoretailer, so I ordered the neoprene gasket from IPD. I also have an older "IPD-Volvo" cast aluminum valve cover gasket on my 1967 Amazon's B18B. Since I got the P1800 for parts and the B20E will eventually go into the Amazon, I've little hesitation is switching the cast aluminum cover to the B20E.
So....
I know that there is a slight "fit" issue with the cast cover. On the Amazon, this has usually presented as a slow, but persistent loss of oil at the rear of the cover. I know others with the cast cover actually "glue" the gasket to the cover. Does this work? I plan on doing the switch tomorrow, but am unsure what sort of "glue" I ought to use. Is high-temp silicone effective with the neoprene? Should I use something else? Should I use nothing other than two very clean surfaces?
Any advice here is welcome as I'm about to loan the car to a desperate friend in need of transportation - one who is not especially mechanically inclined, but won't run the car to death either. I'd like to get it right the first time as it'll be out of my care for several weeks.
